Recently social sciences, especially economics, have incorporated in its methodology aspects related to complexity. The extraordinary increase in the current availability of statistical information as well as in computing power, allows changing the top-down orientation that has traditionally characterized social sciences research by a bottom-up approach, rather less limited when representing the real behavior of economic agents and their relationships.
In particular, the use of methodologies like agent-based simulation, along with network analysis and processing of large databases, allows to explain the aggregate behavior of society and its economy as an emergent phenomena arising from the individual actions of its members.
The group’s goal is to apply the techniques of complexity analysis in the field of economics and other social sciences, with particular attention to spatial, technological and environmental issues.
